Category 2G fans for Zone 1

In case of occasional presence of an flammable atmosphere (Zone 1), the demands on the equipment are higher than for Zone 2.

The fan must not contain any ignition sources, neither in normal operation nor in the event of foreseeable common disruptions. The permissible material pairings are more restricted than for category 3 and an Ex eb motor of category 2G must be used as a minimum requirement.

This type of fan is often used for conveying methane (biogas) or natural gas, as well as in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry. The combination with a pressure shock resistant casing design is optionally available.

Often a gas-tight casing is specified in Zone 1 (e.g. gas-tight according to ISO13349 Cat.H1)
